2013 Greenbush Conference

The CAPS Teacher Education Program presented at the 2013 Greenbush Technology Conference. We put together a presentation titled Timely Toolbox for the Twenty-first Century Teacher. We worked on the presentation for a little over a month. The presentation included videos, activities, and resources to promote self-advocacy, safety, technology in the classroom, and much more! We also found a way to incorporate the Xbox Kinect into the classroom. The presentation was presented at both dates of the conference on October 1st and 2nd.

Snuggle Bean Bag for Autism

The Hug Machine was a cross-strand project that took place at CAPS. Brandi and I from Teacher Ed joined with students from Global Business, Enginering, and Foundations of Medicine to work on a piece of sensory furniture to help Austic children. The project lasted all semester and we met on Wednesday mornings to discuss updates on the project. Multiple design plans were drawn up along with multiple meetings with an occupational therapist. We even took a field trip to Timber Creek Elementary School to see their LIFT program. This field trip gave us more insight on what Austic children really need. We finally developed and built a protoype that

was similar to a giant

bean bag chair. Except

our chair has air bags

in it that can inflate to

give pressure on the

child. The pressure

helps releive stress

and calms outbursts

from Austic children.
